He made the bomb threat to a sheriff’s sergeant, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said.
ST. PETERSBURG – A St. Petersburg man has been arrested and accused of making a bomb threat to a Pinellas County sheriff’s sergeant,
Daniel Lee Harris, 24, of St. Petersburg, was charged with one count of a threat to discharge a destructive device.
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said that, about 3:45 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 25), detectives in the Criminal Intelligence Unit were notified of a bomb threat that was called into the work telephone of Sgt. Richard Bailey, who works in the Misdemeanor Probation Unit.
According to detectives, a male caller left a voicemail on Bailey’s desk phone at approximately 1:12 p.m. that stated, “Hey Sarge, I hope you likeyour kids. Gotta bomb coming.”
Detectives said they were able to identify Harris as the caller.
Harris told detectives that he did not know Bailey and was impaired when he made the threat. Harris told detectives he was attempting to contact his probation officer and somehow was connected to Bailey’s voicemail. Harris admitted to detectives that he made the bomb threat, “because I’m an idiot.”
A canine unit was sent to Bailey’s home for a search, which yielded no positive alerts for bombs.
