Deputies Charge Man in 2009 Gibsonton Murder

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said detectives have solved a 7-year-old murder.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A murder that happened more than 7 years ago was solved with the arrest Saturday (April 14) of a Brandon man, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

Charles Andrew Martinez, 28, was charged with one count each of grand theft of a motor vehicle and first degree murder with a firearm in connection with the shooting death of Victor Martinez, 21. It is unclear if Martinez was related to the dead man.

Charles Martinez was arrested at the Hillsborough County Jail. He was in jail on charges of murder, arson, burglary, and grand theft.

Deputies said the latest murder charge arose from the discovery on Nov. 8, 2009, of Victor Martinez’s body in the area of Powell Road and Hwy. 41 S in Gibsonton. Mr. Martinez had suffered a gunshot wound to the middle of his back and another gunshot wound to his head.
