TAMPA – One man is in custody and police are searching for a second man in connection with an officer-involved shooting in Tampa.

Israel Lavaris Magwood, 19, of Tampa, is charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling, resisting an officer without violence, and loitering and/or prowling. Additional charges are pending as the investigation continues, the Tampa Police Department said.

The incident began late last night (March 21) or early this morning as a bicycle stop near the corner of Central and Floribraska where an officer spotted two men in dark clothing riding bikes with no lights in the front or back. Police said the suspects fled on foot and one or both fired shots at an officer who was pursuing them. The officer returned fire. Neither the officer nor either suspect was hit.

Tampa police searched the area for about four hours. Officers said they captured Magwood but the other suspect eluded them. Police are searching for him. Several blocks of Floribraska were shut down while the search was ongoing.
