Boca Ciega Student Had Gun on Campus, Gulfport Police Say

Gulfport police said there was no indication he displayed or threatened to use the weapon. The student said he bought the gun from a friend for personal protection.

GULFPORT – A Boca Ciega High School student was arrested after he was found with a gun on campus, the Gulfport Police Department said.

Patrick Tully, 17, was charged with felony possession of a weapon and ammunition on school property. Police said here was never any indication that Tully displayed the gun or threatened to use the weapon. Officers said he told them he bought the gun from a friend for personal protection.

Police said they found the gun while acting on a tip from other students indicating that Tully might have had drugs.

School administrators pulled him from class and conducted a search with the school resource officer. When they found the loaded, .40-caliber Glock handgun in Tully’s backpack, the officer seized the firearm and placed him under arrest. Officers said there were no drugs found in his possession.
