The changes will help make way for construction of the Selmon Extension.

TAMPA – Drivers traveling along Gandy Boulevard in Tampa can expect to see new traffic patterns this week.

Early this week, drivers traveling westbound on Gandy will see a new configuration for vehicles wanting to turn into the boat ramp as well as for vehicles wanting to go back eastbound.

The new turn around configuration will allow westbound Gandy motorists to turn near the bridge onto a dedicated left turn lane onto the Frontage Road. Motorists will continue on the Frontage Road to the boat ramp or to travel back eastbound on Gandy. Advanced notification signs will be in place to help this modification.

In addition, beginning today (April 29), traffic west of Westshore Boulevard will have a new traffic shift. Eastbound Gandy Boulevard traffic will be shifted south onto the new paved roadway. A few days later, westbound traffic will be shifted south onto the old eastbound roadway. These traffic shifts will allow contractors to complete the roadway widening construction in the area.

Motorists need to also be aware that two intersection on Gandy have right turn lanes that have been combined into through and right turn lanes. Those are eastbound and westbound at Westshore Boulevard and eastbound at Lois Avenue.

Similarly, the westbound left inside turn lane at Manhattan Avenue has been eliminated to allow sufficient access for contractors to conduct work in the median. The outside turn lane remains in place.

As a reminder, one lane on both eastbound and westbound Gandy between Westshore and the Gandy Bridge will be closed each night between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. There may also be intermittent night time lane closures throughout the project limits. Through travel lanes will remain open during daytime hours.

In an effort to keep the construction crews, and the traveling public safe, Expressway officials remind motorists that the posted construction speed limit is 45 miles an hour. Enforced speed enforcement will be in place in the signed construction zones. The fine for speeding in a construction zone is double the amount of a regular ticket.
