Crist: Government Shutdown Was ‘Irresponsible’

After the announcement of an end to the government shutdown, U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist released a statement saying he looks forward to discussing “enhanced border security proposals.”

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist, D-St. Petersburg, released this statement on the announcement of an agreement to re-open the federal government:

“The shutdown was irresponsible, causing harm to millions of Americans in the public and private sectors, damaging our economy, and weakening our safety and security. I strongly support border security, but holding the federal government hostage to push a specific policy proposal was inappropriate and not how our democracy should work. I look forward to discussing enhanced border security proposals in the coming weeks and will continue pressing for passage of legislation to fully fund our government for the remainder of the fiscal year, preventing another shutdown.”

Crist represents Florida’s 13th Congressional District, which includes south and mid-Pinellas County.
