The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office and Pinellas County Government have launched a new and improved “crime viewer” website.

PINELLAS COUNTY – The “crime viewer” website, developed through a cooperative effort between the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office and the county’s business technology services department, is a mapping program designed to help residents gather information about crime in their community. The Sheriff’s Office and other municipal police departments have partnered to contribute crime data for the new and improved mapping program. Once on the website, citizens are able to enter their address, city, or zip code to view the various types of crime in that specific area.

Search filters are in place to allow users to narrow down their search by specific crime type, such as burglary, assault, robbery, theft and vandalism. Users are also able to search by agency and date of occurrence. Search buffers allow citizens to search within a 0.5-mile to a 3-mile radius of their community. Search results are able to be viewed on the map itself or exported for citizens’ use.

“Crime viewer” also works on mobile devices and an email notification feature is available by simply entering an email address after searching a specific location.

The Sheriff’s Office provides data for unincorporated Pinellas and its contract cities of Belleair Beach, Belleair Bluffs, Belleair Shore, Dunedin, Indian Rocks Beach, Madeira Beach, North Redington Beach, Oldsmar, Redington Beach, Safety Harbor, Seminole, South Pasadena and St. Pete Beach. The sheriff also provides data for the Belleair and Clearwater police departments. Other police departments that contributed data are Gulfport, Kenneth City, Indian Shores, Largo, Pinellas Park, St. Petersburg, Treasure Island and Pinellas County Schools.
