ST. PETERSBURG – Florida Highway Patrol troopers arrested and charged a Riverview woman Monday (Feb. 15) in connection with a fatal hit and run earlier in the day on the Howard Frankland Bridge.

Allison Faye Huffman, 36, of 10430 Boyette Creek Blvd. in Riverview, was in the Pinellas County Jail charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving a death, a felony.

Huffman was arrested late Monday at the home of a friend. Tampa Bay area police had spent the day looking for her. They found her when St. Petersburg police were tipped off that she was at a friend’s apartment in the Carillon area in northeastern St. Petersburg. They detained her there until FHP troopers arrived.

Rogelio Perez-Borroto, 43, of Tampa, had stopped his tow truck to help two stranded motorists about 2:22 a.m. Mr. Perez-Borroto had the two sit in his tow truck, which was in the emergency lane, while he loaded their car. While he was doing so, he was struck and flung in the air by a 2012 Volkswagen Passat. He died at the scene. The Passat’s driver did not stop and FHP officials found the vehicle Crown Plaza Hotel near the Westshore Mall in Tampa. The driver was not there. Later in the day, the FHP named Huffman as the suspected driver and began searching for her.
