Uber Driver Shot, Pinellas Deputies Say

Pinellas sheriff’s deputies are investigating the shooting, which happened in the unincorporated Clearwater area.

PINELLAS COUNTY – An Uber driver was found shot early this mornng (July 25), the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said.

Terence Baxter, 33, of Brandon, was taken to Bayfront Heatth St. Petersburg with a gunshot wound to his abdomen.

Deputies said they found a damaged 2012 Chevrolet Malibu in the construction area near the intersection of Ulmerton Road and 40th Street North in unincorporated Clearwater about 4 a.m. They stopped to check the car and found Baxter inside in the driver’s seat. He was unresponsive. Deputies called paramedics who took him to the hosptial.

Baxter later told deputies that he had been “jumped.” Deputies confirmed that Baxter was on duty as an Uber driver at the time of the shooting.

There is no information on a suspect at this time.
