The driver of the BMW stabbed the passenger in another vehicle, the Tampa Police Department said.

TAMPA – Investigators have found and seized the BMW that was driven in a fatal road rage incident, the Tampa Police Department said.

TPD officers said they found the car in a parking lot in the city late Wednesday (April 4). Early today (April 5), police seized the car.

Police said they have identified and made contact with the man believed to have been driving the BMW at the time of the road rage incident. No arrest has been made at this time.

Gilbert Serna, 56, died as a result of injuries inflicted during the incident, which happened at about 11:22 a.m. Wednesday on Fowler Avenue near I-275.

Mr. Serna was a passenger in a Dodge that was stopped next to the BMW in the westbound lanes at the time of the incident. Police said the BMW was on the right side of the truck.

Mr. Serna apparently spat out the window of the truck as the two vehicles were stopped. The driver of the BMW took offense and got out of his car to verbally confront Mr. Serna. The driver of the BMW stabbed Serna in the upper body, then got back into his car, and drove away. There is no evidence to indicate that the driver of the BMW knew the two men in the truck.

The driver of the truck tried to follow the BMW as it headed west on Fowler. Ultimately the truck stopped at the corner of W 109th Avenue and N Ashley Street.

Tampa police officers performed CPR on Mr. Serna who was taken to the hospital where he died of his injuries.
