Police Chief Eric Ward and members of his staff have gone to Orlando.

TAMPA – In the wake of the horrific shootings in Orlando, the city of Tampa has pledged to do whatever it can to help Orlando as it recovers from the tragedy.

Mayor Bob Buckhorn has reached out to his friend, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, to offer support. Tampa Police Chief Eric Ward reached out to his colleague, Orlando Police Chief John Mina, to offer moral support. Ward and members of his staff have gone to Orlando to assist in any way they can.

Although the Orlando mass shooting in which at least 50 died and at least 53 were injured at Pulse, a gay nightclub, appears to be an isolated incident, Ward said he and his staff have been monitoring the situation closely. There is no evidence of any threat in Tampa but given that the focus of this attack was a club that catered to the LGBT community, Tampa police will enhance coverage of similar clubs in Tampa.

“As always, we remain vigilant and we are doing all we can to keep our city safe,” Ward said. “Our message is that one that we have repeated many times: If you see something, say something, and we will do something.”
