Pinellas Park Police Investigate Death of Nursing Home Resident

Pinellas Park police say the investigation concerns possible abuse.

PINELLAS PARK – Police here say they are investigating a possible abuse/death of an elderly nursing home resident.

Pinellas Park police were called about 9:45 p.m. Saturday (April 30) by paramedics who were taking an elderly man, who was possibly a victim of abuse, to the hospital.It appears that the man may have been left outside the nursing home in the sun resulting in second degree burns with blisters and dehydration, according to police. The man went into cardiac arrest and died, they said. The man’s name is being withheld until his next of kin is notified.

Police said they are investigating what exactly occurred at the Gracewood Nursing Home, 8600 U.S. 19 N,  nursing home, whether it was abuse and if it contributed to the man’s death. Police have also notified the Department of Children and Families, which will also investigate. Police said the investigation is in its early stages and may take a few days to get the preliminary results of an autopsy by the Pinellas County Medical Examiner’s Office.
