The man scammed a victim out of his pay, deputies say.

PASCO COUNTY – Pasco sheriff’s deputies are searching for a man suspected of impersonating a member of law enforcement.

Deputies say the victim was traveling south on U.S. 41 at Bowman Road in Spring Hill about 8 p.m. Tuesday (Dec. 29) when he was stopped by a midsize, unknown make sedan with flashing red and blue lights on the passenger side visor.  A white male in his 30’s standing about 6-feet tall, weighing 220 pounds and clean shaven approached the victim. The suspect was wearing a blue uniform, described as BDUs or battle dress uniform, with an embroidered, five-point star with an eagle and “DHS” embroidered on the collar. The suspect identified himself as being from Homeland Security and told the victim he was being stopped for speeding.

The suspect then asked the victim for his license and registration.  As the victim opened his console, the man saw a TD Bank envelope and asked what was in the envelope.  The victim told him that he just got paid for a job and the man took the envelope along with the victim’s paperwork and walked back to his car. deputies say.

The suspect returned a few minutes later and warned the victim, but didn’t return the envelope, which contained a large amount of cash.  The victim asked for his money and the man told him that he would have to come to the Federal Building in Tampa to prove it was his. The victim called the Federal Building on Wednesday (Dec. 30) and was told he was scammed.
