Driver Dies from Injuries in Single-Car Hernando Crash

The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from his car when it overturned, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

HERNANDO COUNTY – A Brooksville man died Saturday (May 21) from injuries he received in a car accident earlier in in the week.

James Bryon Russo, 31, of Brooksville, died at Bayonet Point Hospital where he was taken by helicopter after the crash, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said the accident happened about 5:16 a.m. Tuesday (May 17) on State Road 50 at Lockhart Road. Mr. Russo was driving his 2007 Toyota east on SR 50 when the vehicle entered the median. Mr. Russo over-corrected and lost control. His car re-entered the eastbound lane, then overturned and crossed the median into the westbound lanes. Mr. Russo, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the Toyota when it overturned. Mr. Russo was taken by helicopter to Bayonet Point.
