He received the Gus Bilirakis 12th Congressional District First Responder of the Year Award.

TAMPA BAY – Sunstar Paramedics employee Jared Sorensen was selected as one of the 12th Congressional District’s First Responders of the Year at a special appreciation banquet hosted by U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis.

Sorensen was recognized for his dedication to exceptional patient care and to implementing education and training initiatives. Since Sorensen joined Sunstar in 2011, he has steadily advanced to his current position of assistant supervisor. As part of that role, he provides essential training and guidance to Sunstar’s newer employees and clinicians.

“Jared is an asset to the Sunstar team and we’re grateful for his contributions to our team and our community,” said Sunstar Paramedics chief operating officer Mark Postma. “We’re pleased that Rep. Bilirakis has recognized him for his service.”

In addition to his work as an assistant supervisor, Sorensen is a paramedic and field training officer, and he’s an active member of both Sunstar Paramedics’ Critical Care Transport team and its Honor Guard. He also assists Sunstar’s Clinical Services Department with on-boarding and assessments of new medics in Pinellas County and is a member of the Sunstar Honor Guard. He also works as a Pinellas County EMS instructor and is a certified flight paramedic.

The Gus Bilirakis 12th Congressional District First Responder of the Year awards recognized one law enforcement officer, fire fighter, and paramedic from each agency. Each one has gone above and beyond in service to our community.

At the May 15 banquet, Bilirakis, R-Tarpon Springs, presented Sorensen with the award along with a congressional medal and a U.S. flag that was flown over the Capitol building.

Sunstar is the Pinellas County-owned ambulance service. It is managed and run by Paramedics Plus, a Texas-based company.

Bilirakis represents Florida’s 12th Congressional District, which includes north Pinellas and Pasco counties.
