The St. Petersburg Museum of History offers watermelon queens, manatee and mermaids Thursday evening.

ST. PETERSBURG — Historian and writer Cathy Salustri is the featured speaker at Happy Hour with the Historian, 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday (July 9) at the St. Petersburg Museum of History.

Salustri’s talk is titled “U.S. 19: Watermelon Queens,  Manatee and Mermaid.” Salustri used the Work Progress Administration (WPA) 1939 Guide to the Southernmost State for a driving tour along the highway. The discussion will feature information on the Watermelon Queen in Monticello, swimming with manatee in Florida’s springs and the Grandma Mermaids of Weeki Wachee Springs. She found many other surprises along the way.

Tickets are available at the door for a suggested donation of $5. A cash bar is available. The museum is at 335 Second Ave. NE.
