The St. Petersburg Silver Raiders Junior Midgets ended their Pop Warner football championship run successfully.
ST. PETERSBURG — The Silver Raiders beat the Colorado Springs War Dogs 18-16 Friday to win the Pop Warner Super Bowl, equivalent to a national championship in the youth football league.
The Silver Raiders play in the Pop Warner Division II Junior Midget classification, which is for boys 12 to 15 years old. The league has several divisions based on players’ ages and weights.
Melvin Jordan, the coach, said a big life lesson comes with the championship.
“Even though we come from a not-so-great-neighborhood, we can still succeed in life,” Jordan said.
The Silver Raiders worked there way through a series of playoff games to reach the Super Bowl, which was played at Disney World’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
