Gulfport Sets Citizens Police Academy for Teens

The academy, Gulfport’s first, will give teenagers a chance to see first hand what Gulfport police officers do while on duty.

GULFPORT – The Gulfport Police Department will conduct its first Teen Citizens’ Police Academy from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursdays from June 18 through Aug. 27. Participants are offered the opportunity to learn and witness first hand what Gulfport police officers do as they provide police services to the citizens of Gulfport. Classroom instruction and field demonstrations will show the various aspects of law enforcement, including community policing, emergency vehicle operations, firearm safety and familiarization, traffic stops and building searches. Applicants must be between the ages of 14 and 19 and pass a background investigation. Class size is limited to 12 with preference given to Gulfport residents.
