Emergency and administrative operations will be run out of temporary quarters on the site.

EAST LAKE – This unincorporated area’s fire department is closing its main station to make way for extensive remediation and repairs that are needed because of mold and mildew.

East Lake Fire Station 57 will close as soon as temporary buildings to house the crew and administrative staff have been set up on the existing station site. The permitting process for the installation of those buildings is underway with Pinellas County, according to East Lake Fire Rescue.

The station, 3375 Tarpon Lake Blvd., was opened in 2007. Problems with the station’s air conditioning system and attic ventilation were noted several years ago, and efforts to resolve the issues
with the general contractor, Brown and Brown, and Hoffman Architects PA. have been unsuccessful, department officials said. The fire district has filed legal action against both parties.

Repairs and remediation are expected to take between three to four months. Emergency and administrative operations will continue from the same address throughout the process. The station will be unavailable for public use until it is reopened.
