A third solar co-op is forming in St. Petersburg. Membership is open to all Pinellas County residents.

ST. PETERSBURG – Homeowners who are considering going solar but aren’t sure where to start are invited to the launch of the third and final St. Pete Solar Co-op.

The Co-op is open to all Pinellas County residents. The formal launch is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday (Aug. 23) at the St. Petersburg Museum of History, 335 Second Ave. NE in St. Petersburg.

The launch will highlight the benefits and opportunities solar co-ops provide to area residents. The St Pete Solar Co-ops are an instrumental part of the city’s Ready for 100 campaign and are a core component of the city’s efforts to reduce its greenhouse gases as part of the Integrated Sustainability Action Plan. The cooperatives help raise public awareness of the many benefits of going solar and help people understand how to save money on solar. Further, they simplify the process for residential photo voltaic installations, while broadening the network of solar supporters in Florida.

The Co-ops are sponsored by the city of St. Petersburg, the League of Women Voters of the St. Petersburg Area,  and Solar United Ne ighbors of Florida, together with the University of South Florida St. Petersburg, Pinellas County Urban League, Florida Suncoast Sierra Club, Solar and Energy Loan Fund (SELF), Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, St. Pete Eco-Village, Chart 411, and Earth Day St. Petersburg.

The Solar Co-ops are collections of community members installing solar PV systems on their homes and businesses! By buying together, property owners leverage the power of the ‘group-buy’ to get lower prices on solar electricity. Joining the St. Pete Autumn Solar Co-op is a great way to get solar power for your home or business, get assistance through the process, and save significant money on energy bills for decades!
