Protestors Seek Preservation of Green Space in Pinellas

TIdes Rally | Park Boulevard Protest | Environment

Representatives from neighborhoods around four Pinellas golf courses rallied on Park Boulevard in Seminole this morning to protest the possible redevelopment of the courses for housing.

SEMINOLE – Activists stood on the side of one of the busiest roads in one of the most over-developed counties in Florida this morning (April 27) to wave signs and urge that some of the last remaining green space in Pinellas be preserved.

The land in question – four golf courses – is being eyed by developers who want to put high-density housing on the acreage. The courses – the Tides, Baypointe, Bardmoor and the Bayou Club – are all in mid-Pinellas County.

“Preserve nature!” Cindy Stiles shouted at passing drivers. She also waved a handmade sign with the words, “Save nature.” Stiles lives near the Bardmoor course.

The rally is the latest strategy neighbors of the four golf courses are using to call attention to the need for Pinellas to preserve the remaining undeveloped acreage in the county.
