Pinellas County Schools is a B district for the fourth consecutive year, gaining 22 total points from last year across the school grade categories.

PINELLAS COUNTY – The Florida Department of Education has released the 2018 school grades, and many schools throughout Pinellas demonstrated improvement.

Pinellas County Schools is a B district for the fourth consecutive year, gaining 22 total points from last year across the school grade categories. Additionally, Pinellas increased in eight of 11 school grade categories.

School officials said they are especially proud of the overall performance of the district’s high schools and middle schools, and are pleased that a vast majority of schools throughout the district earned an A, B or C.

School grade improvement highlights:

• Ninety percent of all Pinellas schools earned an A, B or C and nearly half had an A or B
• Every Pinellas high school earned an A, B or C grade
• Palm Harbor University High School improved its grade from a B to an A
• Four high schools increased from a C to a B: Clearwater, Countryside, Largo and Pinellas Park high schools
• The number of A schools increased from 32 to 36
• Six schools improved to an A: Frontier Elementary, Oldsmar Elementary, Orange Grove Elementary, Palm Harbor Middle, Palm Harbor University High School and Southern Oak Elementary
• Six schools improved to a B: Clearwater High, Countryside High, Largo High, North Shore Elementary, Osceola Middle and Pinellas Park High School
• Five schools improved to a C: Azalea Middle, Largo Middle, Maximo Elementary, Mildred Helms Elementary and John M. Sexton Elementary
• Two schools improved by two letter grades: Southern Oak Elementary improved from a C to an A; Azalea Middle improved from an F to a C
• Three schools exited State Turnaround status:  Azalea Middle, Largo Middle and Mildred Helms Elementary
• Four alternative education sites improved their state improvement rating: Clearwater Intermediate, Lealman Innovation Academy, Pinellas Gulf Coast Academy and Richard L. Sanders School

“Our dedicated teachers and school leaders have worked diligently to improve academic achievement in all of our schools. I am encouraged by the progress we have achieved, particularly in our high schools. I am confident Pinellas will actualize the goal of becoming an A district, with every school earning an A or B,” said Michael Grego, schools superintendent.
