SELF, which works in partnership with the city of St. Petersburg, can help local contractors finance more home renovation projects.

ST. PETERSBURG – Residential contractors are encouraged to attend an informational session hosted by the nonprofit Solar and Energy Loan Fund.

SELF’s lending standards are less stringent than traditional banks and can help local contractors finance more home renovation projects and increase revenues. The informational session will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 24) at the Financial Empowerment Center, 1206 7th Ave. S.

SELF is seeking licensed, certified, and insured contractors with a solid work history. There is no cost to contractors to apply to become SELF-approved or to access SELF financing.  Contractors who’ve experienced turning away business due to their clients’ lack of financing options are highly encouraged to attend.

SELF specializes in providing loans to low- and moderate-income homeowners who have struggled to receive loans from traditional banks or financing programs.  Special programs are offered for women, veterans, seniors, and people with credit issues.

SELf | Solar and Energy Loan Fund | EnvironmentSELF provides loans for home improvement projects, such as, insulation, HVAC, roofs, windows, doors, hurricane shutters, solar water heaters, solar PV systems, water conservation, water quality improvements, and disability products. To date, SELF has completed nearly $6 million in home renovation loans, with energy efficiency, storm resilience, and solar energy projects leading the way.  In light of the local solar co-ops, SELF anticipates assisting even more clients with financing for solar energy projects in the St. Pete area.

The program is a collaboration with the city of St. Petersburg which recognizes the importance of resource conservation, clean energy, and access to financing as key to increased community resilience and sustainability.
