The 18 year old passenger was thrown from the car when it overturned, FHP troopers say.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – One teen died and two others were injured in a crash on I-75, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

An 18-year-old Wimauma boy died at the scene. He was a passenger in one of the vehicles. The driver, an 18-year-old Brandon boy, and the other passenger, a 17-year-old Riverview boy, both suffered minor injuries. It is unclear if they were taken to a hospital. The other driver was not injured.

The crash happened about 3:30 p.m. at about Mile Marker 251 (Gibsonton Drive) on northbound I-75 in HIllsborough County.

Troopers said the Brandon teen was driving a sedan in the inside center lane when he overtook a pickup truck driven by a 58-year-old man from Bradenton.

As the sedan tried to pass the pickup, the right front hit the left rear of the truck. The impact sent the sedan into the median where it overturned and the Wimauma teen, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle.
