A tractor-trailer made an improper U-turn into the center median, FHP troopers say.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A man and woman from Safety Harbor were seriously injured in a traffic crash on I-275, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The driver, a 55-year-old man, was listed in serious condition. His passenger, a 55-year-old woman, was listed in critical condition.

The other driver was cited for making an improper turn, FHP troopers said.

The crash happened about 4:50 a.m. Monday (July 20) on northbound I-275 (State Road 93) at about Mile Marker 58 in Hillsborough County.

Troopers said a tractor-trailer was traveling north on I-275 when it made an “improper U-turn into the center median” so as to travel south onto I-275. The turn took it into the path of the van the Safety Harbor man was driving and the two vehicles collided.
