He was not wearing a seat belt, FHP troopers say.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Tampa man suffered critical injuries Sunday (Sept. 20) in a crash on Causeway Boulevard (State Road 676), the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The 39-year-old Tampa man was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The other driver was not injured.

The crash happened about 9:51 a.m. on Causeway Boulevard (Sr 676) approaching U.S. 301 in Hillsborough County.

The Tampa man was driving a sedan east on Causeway, passing slower traffic. Troopers said he steered his sedan into the inside lane and hit the rear of a tractor-trailer driven by a 53-year-old Frostproof man.

After the impact, the sedan rotated to the outside shoulder and hit a pedestrian handrail south of the adjacent sidewalk before coming to a stop.
