St. Petersburg Motor Scooter Driver Seriously Injured in 62nd Avenue Crash
The other driver has been cited, Pinellas Park police say.
PINELLAS PARK – A St. Petersburg man was seriously injured this morning (Oct. 13) when another driver turned in front of him, the Pinellas Park Police Department said.
Jared Hernandez, 33, of St. Petersbur, was taken to a hospital in serious condition. Police said a helmet was located at the scene but it is unclear if Hernandez was wearing it.
The other driver, Danea Coleman 27, also of St. Petersburg, was cited for violating Hernandez’s right of way. Neither speed nor impairment are considered factors in the crash.
The crash happened about 6:30 a.m. at the intersection of 39th Street N and 62nd Avenue in Pinellas Park.
Police said the crash happened when Coleman, who was driving a Nissan Maxima, made a left turn from eastbound 62nd Avenue N to travel north on 39th Street. As a result of the turn, Coleman violated Hernandez’s right of way. Hernandez’s motor scooter hit the side of the Nissan.
The roadway was closed for several hours to complete the investigation but was opened again by about 10:30 a.m.
