Pickup Truck Driver Dies in Head-On Crash on U.S. 92

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A pickup truck driver died Saturday (Oct. 17) in a nearly head-on crash on U.S. 92, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The pickup truck driver, who died at the scene, has not been identified.It is unclear whether he was wearing a seat belt.

The other driver, a 53-year-old Palm Harbor man, and his passenger, a 36-year-old Seffner man, were seriously injured. The Seffner man was not wearing a seat belt, troopers said.

The crash happened about 2:13 a.m. on U.S. 92 approaching Parsons Avenue in Hillsborough County.

Troopers said the deceased man was driving a pickup truck east on U.S. 92 when, for an unknown reason, he entered the westbound lane and collided nearly head on with the sedan the Palm Harbor man was driving.

After the impact, the pickup truck overturned and caught fire. It burned completely in the roadway.
