He lost control and was thrown from his SUV, according to FHP troopers.

PINELLAS COUNTY – A Palmetto man died in a traffic crash on I-275 on Thursday (April 9) night, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

George Patrick Dunne, 37, died at the scene. FHP troopers said he was not wearing a seat belt. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

The crash happened about 8:47 p.m. on northbound I-275 at the exit ramp leading to Roosevelt Boulevard/118th Avenue N in Pinellas County.

Troopers said Mr. Dunne was driving a 2006 Ford Ranger north on I-275 when he tried to pass a bus and lost control of his SUV, which hit a guardrail.

Upon impact, Mr. Dunne was thrown from the Ford, which came to rest along the ramp leading to 118th Avenue N.

The Ford was hit by a 2008 Mercedes GL450 that was being driven north on the exit ramp. The Mercedes driver was not injured.
