Motorcyclist, Passenger Seriously Injured in I-275 Crash on the Skyway Bridge

The motorcycle’s rear tire blew out, FHP troopers say.

PINELLAS COUNTY – A motorcyclist and his passenger were seriously injured Saturday (May 16) when they were thrown from the bike after its rear tire blew out on the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened about 12:57 p.m. on I-275 at about Mile Marker 12 on the Sunshine Skyway in Pinellas County.

Troopers said the motorcyclist, a 72-year-old man from St. Petersburg, and his passenger, a 57-year-old woman from Woodstock, GA, were driving north on the Skyway when the bike’s rear tire blew out. The driver lost control of the bike, which overturned. Both the driver and passenger were thrown from the motorcycle. Both were wearing helmets.
