Girl, 17, on Sidewalk Dies in St. Petersburg Traffic Crash

After the crash, one of the vehicles went up on the sidewalk and hit her, St. Petersburg police say.

ST. PETERSBURG – A teenager standing at an intersection was killed Monday (Dec. 23) when she was hit by a car that drove up onto the sidewalk after a traffic crash, the St. Petersburg Police Department said.

Liamar Matos-Gonzalez, 17, died at the scene.

The crash happened about 4:45 p.m. at the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street N and Third Avenue in St. Petersburg.

Police said a 2014 Jeep Patriot driven by Lynnsey Terepka, 30, was southbound on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Street N in the eastern curb lane. A 2014 Ford Mustang driven by Kayla Enget, 28, was southbound in the center lane. As the vehicles approached Third Avenue, the Ford turned left from the center lane and hit the Jeep.

Once the vehicles separated, the Ford drove onto the sidewalk on the southeast corner of the intersection where Ms. Matos-Gonzalez was standing. The Ford hit her, pushing her into a tree where she died from her injuries.

The case is still under investigation.
