Driver Dies in Fiery Crash on U.S. 41

He was traveling at a high rate of speed before the crash, FHP troopers say.

HERNANDO COUNTY – A man died this morning (Oct. 23) when his car rear-ended a tractor-trailer on U.S. 41.

The man, who was not identified, died at the scene. It is unclear if he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The other driver, a 39-year-old man from Brooksville, was not injured, according to the Florida Highway Patrol..

The crash happened about 3:15 a.m. on U.S. 41 north of Pine Cabin Road in Hernando County.

Troopers said the unidentified man was driving a sedan at a high rate of speed north on U.S. 41 when he overtook a tractor-trailer that was traveling in the same direction. The sedan hit the rear of the tractor-trailer and, after the crash, overturned and caught fire.
