Driver Dies in Crash on Interstate
He was thrown from his car during the crash, FHP troopers say.
ST. PETERSBURG – A Pennsylvania man died Friday (Jan. 31) when he was thrown from his car during a crash on the interstate, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Nicholas Pelak, 31, of Allentown, PA, died at the scene. The other driver was not injured.
The crash happened about 4:28 p.m. at the intersection of I-375 and I-275 in St. Petersburg.
Troopers said Mr. Pelak was driving a 2003 Kia Sorento west on the I-375 ramp to I-275 when he lost control of the car, which overturned. As it overturned, it collided with a 2018 Audi Q7 that was being driven north on I-275.
After the impact, the Kia overturned and came to a final rest along the inside shoulder. Mr. Pelak, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the Kia.
