Dade City Man Dies After Pickup Truck Crashes into Pond
He suffered a medical emergency, FHP troopers say.
PASCO COUNTY – A Dade City man died Satursday (Aug. 1) after the pickup truck he was driving crashed into a pond when he suffered a medical emergency, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The 70-year-old man died at an area hospital where he was taken after the crash. His passenger, a 67-year-old Dade City woman, suffered minor injuries.
The crash happened about 12:50 p.m. on U.S. 301 approaching the intersection of Gus Way in Pasco County.
Troopers said the man, who was driving a pickup truck north on U.S. 301 when he had a medical emergency and lost control of the vehicle.
The truck crossed the center grass median, the southbound lanes of U.S. 301 and drove onto the west shoulder of the roadway south of Gus Way.
The truck continued across Gus Way, hit a wood post and concrete wall, then plunged into a pond and became completely submerged.
