Clearwater Man Dies After SUV Overturns into Retention Pond
His passenger was not injured. Neither one was wearing a seat belt, FHP troopers say.
PINELLAS COUNTY – A Clearwater man died of injuries he suffered after he was thrown from his SUV when it overturned into a retention pond, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The 29-year-old Clearwater man died at a hospital of injuries he suffered in the crash. His passenger, a 28-year-old St. Petersburg woman, was not injured. Neither one was wearing a seat belt, FHP troopers said.
The crash happened about 7:50 a.m. Thursday (July 2) on the exit ramp of 118th Avenue N approaching I-275 in PInellas County.
Troopers said the deceased man was driving an SUV south on the entrance ramp when he failed to negotiate a curve. The SUV left the roadway, hit a median barrier, and overturned into a retention pond.
Both the driver and passenger were thrown from the SUV.
