Registration Opens for Dulcimer Weekend

Woodworking pro Beth Ireland is the guest instructor for those who want to build their own guitar dulcimers.

ST. PETERSBURG – A weekend workshop will bring together lovers of woodworking and music.

Renowned woodworker Beth Ireland will guide participants through the process of making their own guitar dulcimers. Ireland will guide you through the safe use of tools including the bandsaw, router, drill press, and stationary sanders, before learning to shape with hand tools, lay out scale lengths, fret, students will string and strum the dulcimer guitar they create.

Whether you are a musician who wants to learn woodworking techniques, a woodworker who would like to learn the elements necessary to create stringed musical instruments, or just someone looking for a fun weekend, this is the class for you!  Open to all skill levels.

Ireland lives and works in St. Petersburg. Her studio creates woodworking with a specialization in architectural and artistic woodturning. She earned her undergraduate degree from the State University College at Buffalo and an MFA in Sculpture from the Massachusetts College of Art. Her teaching repertoire includes workshops at prestigious arts and crafts schools across the country, including a three-month Professional Woodturning Intensive at The Center for Furniture Craftsmanship.

Dulcimer weekend is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 28-29. The cost is $275 per person plus a $40 charge for materials. To sign up for the course, go to saltcreekarts.com. Class is limited to eight students.
