Kiwanis Seek Sponsors for Flags in ‘Field of Honor’
The Field of Honor began with 24 flags in 2015 and now has 419 flags that are displayed in front of Seminole City Hall during November.
SEMINOLE – The Kiwanis Breakfast Club of Seminole is accepting flag sponsorship applications for its 2019 Field of Honor.
The Field of Honor, in partnership with the city of Seminole, began with 24 flags in 2015 and this year will honor past and present veterans with a patriotic display of 419 American flags.The flags will be displayed the entire month of November in front of Seminole City Hall and adjacent post office.(For related stories, click here and click here.)
Individuals, businesses and organizations can sponsor one or more American flags for $35 each. The 3-foot by 5-foot flags are mounted on an 8-foot steel staff and placed in rows. Each sponsored flag will have a military-style streamer attached printed with the name of the veteran being honored, years served, military service logo and the Kiwanis logo.
After the conclusion of the display on Dec. 1, each flag sponsor can pick up at Extreme Signage their customized streamer(s) to keep in memory of the veteran(s) they’ve honored. If you have sponsored a flag in the past and would like your prior year streamer(s) displayed with this year’s streamer then please arrange to drop them off at Extreme Signage at 10525 Park Blvd., Suite 110, Seminole (next to the car wash) before Oct. 18.
Volunteers are also needed to help install the flags and break down the display. The flags are erected starting at 8 a.m. Nov. 1 and removed at 1 p.m. Dec. 1.
A Field of Honor ceremony with distinguished speakers and officials will be held 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Nov. 5 in the Council Chambers at Seminole City Hall. The event is open to the public.
Flags may be sponsored via credit card through the Kiwanis Club’s web site at: kiwanisseminolebreakfast.com. For sponsorships via cash or check payment, contact Kiwanis Club members Vicki Sullivan at (727) 744-4418 or Wayne McKenney at (813) 767-4682. Sponsorship applications are available at the Seminole City Hall and Seminole Library. After a flag sponsorship is purchased, your name and the name of the veteran being honored will be included in a scrolling banner on the Kiwanis club’s web site until July 2020.
The last day to sponsor a flag for the 2019 Field of Honor is Oct. 21.
Proceeds from this event will be used for the Field of Honor, and also help support the Kiwanis Breakfast Club’s numerous community service programs through its 501(c) (3) nonprofit community service foundation. Some of these programs include: Adopt-A-School and Bring Up Grades at six elementary schools, Family Fun Fishing Days, K-Kids Clubs, “Reading is Fun-damental” and Special Olympics.
