Bay Pines to Honor Veterans on Monday
The keynote speaker will be retired U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Mike DeLancey, founder of the Wounded Warriors Abilities Ranch in Pinellas Park.
SEMINOLE – The Bay Pines VA Healthcare System (BPVAHCS) will host its annual Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Monday (Nov. 11).
The ceremony will take place in the courtyard located between Buildings 2 and 37 at the C.W. Bill Young VA Medical Center Campus, 10000 Bay Pines Blvd in Seminole. The event is open to all veterans, their family and friends, and the general public.
“For more than 243 years of independence, patriots have stood watch over America,” said Paul Russo, director/CEO, BPVAHCS. “From Bunker Hill to Bagdad, Iraq, their vigilance and determination to uphold the beliefs on which our Nation was founded have made us the beneficiary of their blessings. We look forward to honoring America’s heroes at another great event this year.”
Local VA leaders from the BPVAHCS, St. Petersburg VA Regional Office, Bay Pines National Cemetery, and U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist, D-St. Petersburg, will be present.
The distinguished keynote speaker for the event will be retired U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Mike DeLancey. DeLancey completed tours in Afghanistan and Iraq and is a Purple Heart recipient. He has also received service campaign medals and military awards for his participation in Iraq and Afghanistan and was decorated with the NATO Medal in 2015. He is also the founder of the Wounded Warriors Abilities Ranch in Pinellas Park.
The event will also include musical performances by children of the Keswick Christian School, a special parade of colors provided by local Veteran Service Organizations, traditional military presentations, firing salute by the MacDill Air Force Base Color Guard, and more.
Signage will be posted around the medical center campus to direct visitors to the venue. Reserved and general parking will be available nearby. A shuttle service will also be available to provide transportation for guests from parking lots to the ceremony area. The event will take place outdoors. The Bay Pines VAHCS encourages all attendees to dress appropriately in the event of inclement weather.
