One Injured in Fire at ‘Illegal Rooming House’ in Tampa
Tampa firefighters estimate the damage to the building at about $75,000.
TAMPA – One man was injured in an early morning fire Sunday (July 5) that severely damaged a building that was occupied by several homeless people, according to Tampa Fire Rescue.
The man was taken to Tampa General Hospital with minor injuries. There were no other injuries.
The building itself sustained an estimated $75,000 in damages and is no longer safe, firefighters said. Before the fire, the building housed an illegal rooming house that was occupied by several homeless people.
Firefighters said they were called about 6:50 a.m. to a commercial building at 804 E Floribraska Ave. When firefighters arrived, they found smoke and flames coming from the two-story commercial structure.
Firefighters had the fire under control by about 8 a.m.
According to the fire investigator’s report the fire started in one of the rear ground rooms from an unknown ignition source causing major fire and smoke damage throughout.
