ST. PETERSBURG – Lisa Wheeler-Bowman filed Monday (Jan. 14) to run for reelection to the District 7 sat on the St. Petersburg City Council.
“I’m excited about the direction that St. Petersburg is heading in,” Wheeler-Bowman said. “As our city continues to grow, we need to make sure it works for everyone. I look forward to continuing to fight for our families and work on the issues that matter most to the residents of my district and the city.”
Wheeler-Bowman served as the chair of St. Petersburg City Council in 2018 and vice chair in 2017. She has also served on the board of directors for the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority and as the vice chair of the Housing, Land Use and Transportation Committee.
Before running for office, she was the president of the Council of Neighborhood Associations and the president of the Wildwood Heights Neighborhood Association. Wheeler-Bowman is also an Army veteran.
In 2017, Wheeler-Bowman appeared on Tamron Hall’s show Deadline: Crime with Tamron Hall and discussed how she found her son, Cabretti’s, murderer. Wheeler-Bowman’s son was murdered in 2008, and she fought the “no snitching” code of silence to bring the killer to justice. Then-U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder awarded Wheeler-Bowman the Department of Justice’s Courage Award in 2013 for her advocacy work.
