PINELLAS COUNTY – This morning (April 6), the cities of Clearwater, Largo and Safety Harbor put a specialized COVID-19 response unit in service.

This three-person crew will respond to confirmed and potential COVID-19 coronavirus patients throughout the middle of Pinellas County.

They will be in a rescue unit specially equipped to prevent cross-contamination of patients and crew, with much of the inside of the rear portion of the vehicle covered in plastic.

The driver will remain with the rescue vehicle and not interact with the patient to limit the number of employees coming into contact with the patient.

Officials said this is a joint effort to keep system units available and reduce exposure to a large number of employees. All employees volunteered for the assignment and will work on a rotating schedule.
