Wesley Chapel Man Charged in Hit and Run That Critically Injured Bicyclist
Tampa police are still searching for a second hit-and-run driver.
TAMPA – Officers from the Tampa Police Department have arrested one of two drivers in connection with a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a bicyclist Sunday (Nov. 1) morning.
Officers are continuing to search for the second driver.
A 56-year-old bicyclist suffered life-threatening injuries. He was taken to a hospital where he was listed in critical condition.
Yori Jelani McMillan, 24, of Wesley Chapel, was charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Serious Bodily Injury, Driving While License Suspended, and Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Serious Bodily Injury.
The incidents happened about 4:07 a.m. Sunday (Nov. 1) at the intersection of S West Shore Boulevard and W Wyoming Avenue in Tampa.
Police said that, based on preliminary investigation, a Nissan Murano struck the man as he rode his bicycle along West Shore Blvd and immediately fled the scene. Moments after the initial crash, a white sedan struck the bicyclist as he lay injured in the roadway.
Officers scoured the area looking for the suspect vehicles. While checking the Jefferson at Westshore Apartment complex, an officer came upon a Nissan Murano with extensive damage. It was established that McMillan was the driver. During an interview, officers said McMillan admitted driving the Nissan at the time of the crash.
The Murano was impounded and McMillan was arrested.
