Teens Charged in Wimauma Murder, Carjacking
Hillsborough deputies say they believe the two killed a man during a carjacking.
WIMAUMA – Two teens, ages 15 and 18, have been arrested in connection with a carjacking and murder in Wimauma last week, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.
The 15 year old was charged with one count each of Principle to First Degree Murder and Armed Carjacking. Deputies also arrested Yener Esteban Morales, 18, of Wimauma, was also arrested and charged with one count each of First Degree Murder with a Firearm, Armed Carjacking, and Resisting an Officer without Violence.
Morales-Perez was booked at Orient Road Jail. The 15 year old was booked at the Juvenile Assessment Center.
Deputies said that, about 7:30 a.m. Nov. 21, a passing driver found a man’s body on the side of the roadway near 3500 County Road 579. Deputies said at the time that the man appeared to have suffered an upper body trauma.
On Wednesday (Nov. 27) afternoon, investigative tips lead deputies to the teens. Deputies said the duo is believed to have carjacked the victim at gunpoint and killed him the process. The incident was not a random act, and detectives said they believe the victim was targeted.
