St. Petersburg Man Charged with DUI After Fatal Crash

A bicyclist who pulled in front of his vehicle was hit and killed, FHP troopers say.

PINELLAS COUNTY – A St. Petersburg man was killed Friday (May 22) when his bicycle was hit after he pulled in front of a car on 118th Avenue N, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The bicyclist, a 59-year-old St. Petersburg man, died at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet. His name was not released.

The driver, Joseph William Maksimowicz, 28, of St. Petersburg, was not injured. He was charged with one count of Driving Under the Influence.

The crash happened about 10:05 p.m. on 118th Avenue N east of 40th Street N in Pinellas County.

The bicyclist was riding east on 118th Avenue when he pulled in front of the sedan that Maksimowicz was driving. The sedan then hit the bike.
