Riverview Man Accused of Stealing Appliances from Home Under Construction
Among the stolen appliances were a microwave, dishwasher, stove/oven, and refrigerator, according to Hillsborough deputies.
CLAIR MEL – A Riverview man has been arrested and charged in connection with the theft of several appliances from a home that is being built, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.
Mathew Adam Brown, 26, of Riverview, was charged with two counts of Grand Theft, and one count each of Trespass on a Construction Site, Burglary of an Unoccupied Dwelling, and Criminal Mischief.
Deputies said that about 3 a.m. Monday (May 25), they found a white van and trailer parked on a posted construction site near Cat Mint Street and Romano Busciglio Street in the Clair Mel area. Brown was sitting in the passenger seat of the van.
After canvassing the neighborhood, deputies also found two dollies in the rear of a home under construction and pry marks on a door in the back of the home. Several appliances were missing from the kitchen, including a microwave, dishwasher, stove/oven, and refrigerator. The trailer attached to the van was also determined to be stolen.
“Crimes like this are not victimless, and they directly contribute to the price of construction going up,” Hillsborough Sheriff Chad Chronister said. “The loss to the contractors is often passed onto their customers looking to buy or remodel homes. I applaud the work of our deputies who located Mathew Brown, quickly connected him to these crimes, and returned the appliances to their rightful owner.”
