Middle School Teacher Sent Sexual Messages to Student, Hillsborough Deputies Say
Hillsborough sheriff’s deputies say he also sent messages to other juveniles.
TEMPLE TERRACE – A Greco Middle School teacher turned himself into authorities after a student’s parents complained that he had sent their son explicit sexual messages through social media.
James Thierry Michaud, 28, of Tampa, was charged with one count each of Authority Figure Soliciting or Engaging in Lewd Conduct with a Student, Transmission of Harmful Materials to a Minor, and Unlawful Use of a Two-Way Communication Device. He is an AVID teacher at Greco in Temple Terrace.
After further investigation into Michaud’s social media, detectives from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said they determined there was evidence he sent explicit messages to other minors. Detectives are working to determine if they are also Greco Middle School students.
“It’s sickening to know an adult, entrusted to educate and mentor our children, abused his position to prey on this young and innocent victim,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Unfortunately, we believe he may have done the same to other minors and urge them to please come forward. This man will not get away with this deplorable behavior and his victims should not suffer in silence.”
Anyone who believes they were a victim of Michaud or has information relevant to this case is urged to contact the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office at (813) 247-8200.
