Homeless Man Accused of Attempted Murder in Largo Stabbing
He denied involvement in the stabbing, Pinellas detectives say.
LARGO – A homeless man has been accused of attempted murder in the stabbing of another man who was walking on a sidewalk in Largo, the PInellas County Sheriff’s Office said.
illiam Junior Lumar, 51, a transient, was charged with one count of Attempted Murder in the First Degree. The 65-year-old man he stabbed is in critical condition and detectives are searching for next of kin.
Deputies said that, about 1:35 this morning (May 2), two men were walking on the sidewalk in front of the Public Storage at 16079 U.S. 19 N in Largo, when Lumar approached them from behind.
Lumar was yelling he wanted to kill someone and that the two men needed to clear the sidewalk. As the two were clearing the sidewalk, one, tripped and fell and Lumar began stabbing him multiple times. Lumar then fled on foot.
Detectives say the two men did not know Lumar.
Deputies said they found Lumar about 2:56 a.m. Lumar had blood on his clothing and had a knife with blood on it. Lumar was positively identified as the suspect in the stabbing.
Lumar denied involvement in the incident.
