Deputies said Aerka Dawson did not lose consciousness but had limited air flow during this short period, which was estimated to be seconds.

Aerka Dawson actively fought back in several instances by grabbing Amy Dawson. During these altercations, deputies said, Aerka Dawson suffered minor bruising to her jaw line, wrist and arms. Aerka Dawson’s child was in the home at the time but did not see anything, deputies said.

On Dec. 31, deputies said, the two got into an argument during which Amy Dawson pushed Aerka Dawson into the bathroom, grabbed her duty firearm from her gun belt and pointed it at Aerka Dawson. Deputies said Amy Dawson threatened to shoot Aerka Dawson if she left her and then Amy Dawson defendant turned the firearm to her own head and threatened to kill herself.

Deputies said the barrel of the firearm touched the side of Aerka Dawson’s head, causing her to fear for her life while the threats were made.
