Gibsonton Man Accused of Stealing Guns, Collectible Coins
He was identified by fingerprints left at the scene, Hillsborough deputies say.
GIBSONTON – A Gibsonton man who was previously convicted of felony charges has been accused of stealing guns and collectible coins during a burglary over the July 4 holiday weekend, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
Adam Donald Stratton, 37, of GIbsonton, was charged with one count each of Armed Burglary of a Structure, Grand Theft Third Degree ($750-$5,000), Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and three counts of Violation of Probation. Deputies say Stratton is a convicted felon who has had a lengthy criminal history in Hillsborough County over the course of the past 20 years.
On July 7, deputies answered a call about a burglary that occurred at Savich Wholesale, 12626 U.S.41 S in Gibsonton. A worker from the business had returned after the Independence Day weekend to find the door had been pried open. Upon their arrival, deputies said they discovered that dozens of firearms and collectible coins had been taken.
Because there were no surveillance cameras near the scene of the burglary, detectives and crime scene technicians had to rely solely on physical evidence. They were able to lift several prints and obtained multiple potential DNA swabs.
Earlier this week, detectives were able to identify Stratton from a print lifted from a coin box and packaging that had been disturbed in the business. Probable cause was developed for his arrest, and Stratton was taken into custody Thursday (July 24).
“Just because you’re not caught on camera, it does not mean our team of detectives will not find you,” Hillsborough Sheriff Chad Chronister said. “This suspect thought he’d get away with his crimes, but thanks to the great investigative skills of our detectives, he’s now back behind bars on several charges, including Armed Burglary of a Structure, Grand Theft, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.”
