HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Tampa motorcyclist died Tuesday (April 21) in a hit-and-run crash on State Road 574, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Derek Lee Bazo, 29, of Tampa, died at the scene.
Roylan Perez Salas, 24, of Dover, was charged with one count each of Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Death and Driving without a Valid Drivers License (Death or Serious Bodily Injury).
The crash happened about 9:20 p.m. at the intersection of SR 574 and Tanner Road in Hillsborough County.
Mr. Bazo was driving a 2008 Yamaha YZF-R6 west on SR 574. When the motorcycle reached the intersection of Tanner Road, troopers said, Salas, who was eastbound on SR 574, turned his 2004 Chevrolet Silverado left into the motorcycle’s path.
After the crash, Salas fled on foot. Troopers and deputies from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office searched the area and found Salas at his home, which was nearby.
